I think allot of women today need to get on with their lives after divorce with children. To many women play head games with their chlidren. If they only realized they are hurting the children & later on it will only come back to haunt them. Its not fair they put children in the middle of there mess. Its not there fault for the divorce. I am a single mother for 17 yrs. my Ex & I never played games with our son. I am sick to see what allot of women do to hurt there kids. It is so upsetting to me that there are so many sick women out there. And I am a women. Get over it & stop using your kids as a weapon.

Co-Parenting is a wonderful idea, but only if both parents are truly able to put their own differences aside. They must be able to communicate without fighting or arguing in order to focus on the best interests of their children.

Far too often this is not the case and then Parallel-Parenting becomes the best alternative. This is where each parent assumes total responsibility while the children are in their care with no expectation of flexibility or negotiation from the other parent.

I'm in the process of writing an article that explains the differences and the "pro's & con's" of each style.

This is true, divorce is a very difficult times of the lives of children and they need the right help to properly cope in this situation. One most common noticeable changes is change itself. It is better to the parents that they will tell their children the changes that might occur in the future in their current situation and please avoid giving the children false hope.
You have a great write up Ruben. Wishing you all the best.

Dearest Rabbi Boteach,
Such a thought-filled and loving letter none of us could have written better. I pray that it will reach not only her ears, but also her heart. I, too, am a divorced parent. The children are small, 9-8- and 4 years old. What can I say? God always walks with us yet still, as a woman, I get lonely for companionship and conversation. What I have learned is to put the children first and God will bless you. There is a saying that I live by now, "To have a child is to know that forever will your heart walk outside your body." As parents all the little eyes are on us;watching and learning about the world and how they fit in. When you are a divorced or single parent the focus is even more intense. You are correct. Structure, discipline, faith and example. Delight yourself in that of God and He will give you the desires of your heart. I am not an ugly woman by any means. I have actually blossomed following the divorce. If what I wanted was "warm sheets" I could have that any night; but it's not what is best for the children, nor me. It helps to stay focused when I remembered, "for these children I prayed." Not just any man can walk into their lives through mine. The man I currently date didn't meet them until after a year's time and for the most part our dating is done on the weekends that they visit their Dad. Kudos to you, Rabbi for having the conviction to stand up and the love to try to heal Brittney.

As I read this I chuckle...
I work at our daughters school - going to every event and talking to all of her teachers, paying for lunches, dances, etc..
I've taken her to every appointment, eyes, ortho, Dr, & have all the receipts to prove it.
Involved in extracurricular & receipts to prove that too.
I've been involved with ONE man with no sleepovers vs. his 4 girlfriends with 2 of them moving in within our 2 year divorce battle,
OH - did I mention his Protection From Abuse order that our daughter witnessed him pounding me in the driveway AND why do I chuckle...
I can't afford the high powered attorney and I received ONE day a week VISITATION with our daughter....
The Judge IS NOT LOOKING OUT FOR THE BEST INTEREST OF OUR DAUGHTER....
Good Luck - it's a rocky road

Being a stepmother is the hardest thing I've ever done to date. Even after 12 years of marriage, it's still the hardest.

My husband's ex enjoys her angry badge of honor going on 13 years now. Playing victim for some people is preferable to moving on.

Joint physical custody should be the healthiest option but if you have one ex using the kids or an ex not putting their needs first, it's not going to happen agreeably or peacefully. In some counties, it won't happen at all if the other parent doesn't agree (that's what we were advised in our county). It's a shame that children's lives and parental relationships are so affected by a parent's anger.

This answer is painfully obvious... Anyone and everyone with any semblence of right and wrong knows that our children need, want and deserve to have BOTH parents as active participants in their lives. Your son is telling you that he needs his daddy, it's time to be adults and do what is in your son's best interest. There is no distance too far, nor any hurdle to difficult to overcome. Start the healing TODAY, right now, make the call, reunite this father and son. It is time that WE start doing what truly is in "Best Interest Of Our Children".

I forgot to add to my post..
When he moved away he never even said goodbye to his kids.. he never even told them he was moving.. he just up and left.. Apparently he has been gone for a couple of years. Like I said he doesnt keep regular contact. I told him my only condition to his "visits" is REGULAR.. you cant come in and out of their lives.
The other day my 15 yr old asked him to call her once a week.. His reply.. I WILL TRY... I was so angry and still am.. I wanted to call him and tell him to drop dead.
He calls from his cell phone and they have to leave messages as his now wife will not allow him to give them any other info. His lawyer told him during mediation to get some balls and tell her these kids are FIRST. I have told him that he is having an affair with his children and they are being cheated.
